Frank Lampard and Chelsea have started a lot of scrutinized Premier League seasons together. This one sees Everton's boss and his former club as opponents.

Will Kalidou Koulibaly deliver the goods in the place of Antonio Rudiger in a late-arriving Premier League debut season? In Dwight McNeil and James Tarkowski, at least, they’ll have more experience in fighting at the foot of the table. How will Everton bounce back from Richarlison’s exit?

The Everton vs Chelsea live stream is the start of a new era for the Blues. Here's how to watch it live, wherever you are.

Aussies can watch the Everton vs Chelsea live stream on Optus Sport (opens in new tab), which has the rights to all 380 Premier League games this season. If you don't want to shell out for a full Sky subscription, you could also consider its Now Sports (opens in new tab) streaming service. This gives you Sky TV within a 4K TV that has a built-in Dolby Atmos soundbar, and without the need for a dish. For instance if you're in the U.K. and want to view a U.S. service, you'd select U.S. from the list. The game will be shown on Sky Sports Premier League. NBC can be accessed with one of the best TV antennas or through a cable TV package. Our favorite right now is ExpressVPN (opens in new tab), thanks to its combination of superb speed, great customer service and excellent device support. Speed, security and simplicity combine to make ExpressVPN (opens in new tab) our favorite VPN service. In our testing, we were impressed by its fast connection times and by its ability to access more than 3,000 services in 160 locations across 94 countries. The answer is to use a VPN, or virtual private network. Arguably the bigger story at Chelsea this summer has been who’s left. The incoming transfers have been relatively meager, with James Tarkowski and Dwight McNeil arriving from relegated Burnley and Sporting Lisbon’s Ruben Vinagre arriving on loan.

Pre-Match Briefing: Everton vs Chelsea (Chelsea FC)

It's back! The Premier League returns and so does our detailed match preview, courtesy of club historian Rick Glanvill and club statistician Paul Dutton…

Unbeaten at Everton between November 2000 and February 2010, Chelsea have won only three times in the past 14 league trips to Goodison Park, the most recent of which was 3-0 in the title-winning 2016/17 season, sealed by a stunning second-half display. In fact, we have left empty-handed after six of the past nine league visits and for four successive seasons. We have since won three and lost two, the last four of which were also away from home. Like all coaches, the Bavarian also has the luxury of calling on five substitutes to change the pattern of play. Already they face a weekend without Salomon Rondon (suspended) and fellow leading striker Calvert-Lewin. As formidable as Chelsea are against our fellow Blues at Stamford Bridge, the recent track record on Merseyside is unenviable, comprising four straight defeats and five visits without a win. Pre-season often mimicked the league campaign just gone, with chances created but not taken. A week of training and trading has passed since then. Raheem Sterling has exhibited the vision, fluidity and relentless pressing that can add a cutting edge to the Blues’ approach. Our earliest ever league start (the previous being the Zola-inspired 4-0 thrashing of Sunderland on 7 August 1999) begins at Goodison Park, an unhappy hunting ground in recent years. Victory on Saturday evening would make it three in a row for the Blues, who dispatched Brighton and Crystal Palace over the previous two campaigns. We are about to take the deep plunge again, uncertain whether the water will be unseasonably chilly or surprisingly warm.

The same certainly won’t be the case for Chelsea, who couldn’t even be bothered to give shirt numbers to Ampadu, Kenedy, Gilmour, Batshuayi and a certain Ross Barkley. In midfield, I’m expecting a duo of Doucoure and Iwobi, based on the Kyiv friendly, with Allan not quite fit to start. The Blues have no recognised striker on the books with Dominic Calvert-Lewin (knee injury) and Salomon Rondon (suspended) both unavailable, while Ellis Simms and Lewis Dobbin have already been shipped out on loan.

Everton vs Chelsea Preview: Probable Lineups, Prediction, Tactics... (The Hard Tackle)

Chelsea and Everton will be aiming to kickstart the 2022/23 Premier League season on a winning note when they lock horns at Goodison Park this weekend.

The pair will be asked to push forward but will likely be in for a tough time against their Chelsea counterparts, Reece James and Ben Chilwell. Mason Mount will be a crucial player for Chelsea with his ability to score and create goals. Meanwhile, Chelsea have their own problems and have had some issues preparing for the new season. Everton will be backed to the hilt by a vociferous Goodison Park crowd on Saturday, but there is no denying that problems exist within Frank Lampard’s squad. With Calvert-Lewin injured and Rondon suspended, Demarai Gray could be asked to lead the line for the Toffees. Edouard Mendy is the undisputed starter between the sticks for Chelsea, where he will be shielded by the three-man backline comprising Cesar Azpilicueta, Thiago Silva and Kalidou Koulibaly. Chelsea are sweating over the fitness of forwards Timo Werner and Armando Broja. Apart from that, there are no major injury concerns for Thomas Tuchel to contend with. Abdoulaye Doucoure is a certainty in the centre of the park for Everton. He could be paired up alongside former Arsenal star Alex Iwobi, who has been used in a central role by Lampard since taking over. While Chelsea finished third last term, they were nearly 20 points behind the top two clubs and will be gunning to close down that gap. Everton will have to make do without star forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who is sidelined for more than a month after picking up a knee injury in training. Ahead of this exciting match-up at Goodison Park, The Hard Tackle takes a closer look at both teams. Everton just about survived the wrath of relegation last season, finishing in 16th place, four points clear of the drop zone.

We simulated Everton vs Chelsea to get a Premier League score ... (Football.London)

Chelsea face Everton at Goodison Park in their first Premier League game of the season, a ground where the Blues have struggled in recent years.

FIFA 22 predicts that after a strong first-half showing from Everton, Chelsea could find themselves on top in the second half and earn a narrow victory. After the goal, Everton seemingly lost hope and momentum, with Chelsea now in full control. Chelsea only had one shot in the first half compared to Everton's four, with the Blues struggling at Goodison Park once again. To complete this simulation, we used FIFA 22 and updated the squads with the latest transfers. A well-worked move saw Dele Alli break into the box before laying it off to Doucoure on the edge of the box. But, after a summer transfer window that's seen the likes of Raheem Sterling, Marc Cucurella and Kalidou Koulibaly sign, Thomas Tuchel's side should be optimistic.

Everton vs Chelsea: Match Preview | A new season beckons (Royal Blue Mersey)

Can the Toffees get a new campaign off to a positive start after a difficult summer?

Until the new signings get bedded in and the Blues can get some consistency in performances they might need that extra push to keep collecting points and ensure we don’t get into another relegation battle. The Toffees will need to channel the same intensity and team spirit they did so well last season to ensure Premier League survival, with the players feeding off the fans’ energy. “As always, the last week before the season is always where you feel a new focus, new excitement, new level of focus in training. That will be a mixture of work [on the training pitch] and the players we can hopefully strengthen the squad with. This is very important to not lose focus and take the first week step by step. After that we needed to digest but last week is good, we feel ready for tomorrow. We took the possibility to prepare the whole week for Saturday, nothing else. There is still plenty of time for incoming and outgoing transfer activity, but in the meantime the new season gets underway today with high-spending Chelsea coming to visit. Indeed, if the Blues are a midtable side when the World Cup break comes around in mid-November, many of us will be thanking our lucky stars and considering the job half-completed. Chelsea had third place pretty much secured at this point and were playing out the season, but the Toffees still had everything to battle for. Following the invasion of Ukraine by Russia and the subsequent sanctions against then owner Roman Abramovich put the very future of the club at stake. Maybe it was also necessary to lose that game like we lost it against Arsenal, against a big rival in the league who is trying to take our place.

Everything you need to know as Chelsea face Frank Lampard in their season opener at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea have hardly had the best preparations either but you can usually rely on their defence and Everton should not pose too many problems without a striker. Raheem Sterling and Kalidou Koulibaly should make their debuts but although Marc Cucurella was signed in time to be registered in Chelsea’s squad, the left back is unlikely to feature. Everton have been rocked by the news that Dominic Calvert-Lewin will miss around “six weeks” due to a knee injury suffered in training.

Everton host Chelsea to begin this new season and looking to get off to a positive start to this campaign.

WAGNH: Well, that’s a bit tough to tell with this being the first “real” game of the season, but preseason has seen largely the same ideas, and along with it, the same problems as last season. We have great expectations of Raheem Sterling and Marc Cucurella while Kalidou Koulibaly has been a target for the better part of half a decade. While this Chelsea side is a bit different than last year - with changes made across the squad and regarding ownership - the expectations are still likely as high as ever. How is Thomas Tuchel looking to adjust this side that struggled at points down the stretch of last season even with a third-place Premier League finish? Chelsea FC may have had ownership changes, but their team will present the same challenges as ever before to Frank Lampard and company; getting off to a good start will be that much more important for this team after the relegation battle of 2021-22. With that said, what have the feelings been around west London, this team, and the supporters regarding preseason struggles, player departures, and arrivals as well as new owner Todd Boehly?
