Steps in voting during tomorrow's general election (Capital FM Kenya)

NAIROBI, Kenya, Aug 8 - On Tuesday, close to 22.1 Million voters will exercise their democratic right as they elect Kenya's fifth president.

Any ballot paper for a given seat placed in a different ballot box will be considered as spoilt vote. The ink is meant to ensure that a voter doesn’t vote twice. For instance, if you place a ballot paper for the presidential seat in a ballot box for the governors seat will be considered as spoilt.

Thousands of Mombasa residents on Tuesday trooped to polling stations to elect their preferred candidates in various elective seats.

She said that candidates will also be allowed to walk in and vote and leave because they are not allowed to be at the polling stations. She added that people with disabilities, expectant and nursing mothers, and the elderly will be allowed to walk in without queuing and vote. However, despite some voters arriving as early as 5am, a number of polling stations were by 8am yet to start the exercise that was scheduled to begin at 6am.

Kenya DP William Ruto: Why I voted early (KFM)

Dressed in blue jeans, a heavy black jacket, a blue scarf and a cream beanie, Ms Karua was given the first priority to vote after which she immediately left for Nairobi. Ms Karua called on Kenyans to turn out in big numbers and vote. She was finally given her ballot papers at 6.10 am and proceeded to the voting booth. However, it turned out that Ms Karua had been directed to Stream III at the polling station whereas her voter details were in Stream I. Get out and vote. Our prayer before voting was about having a peaceful election.

In an interview after Hussein said the polling station was called Harambee mobile polling station and thanked residents for turning out in large numbers despite the fact that there were no classrooms for people to have a proper polling station. The aim of the mobile polling station was to give a chance to the pastoralists to vote and go back to their normal day to day life of taking care of livestock. She then had a word with the officers and we overheard her requesting the security officers to allow the women with young children and expectant to vote without queuing so as to go back to their homes due to the heat.

Voting in the diaspora is happening in 12 countries including Burundi, Tanzania, Rwanda, Uganda, South Africa, United Kingdom, Canada, USA, Qatar, UAE and Germany. Voting is taking place from 6 am to 5 pm at their local time. Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission vice chairperson Juliana Cherera said polls were opened at 6 am in most places countrywide as well as in the diaspora.
