Preston North End team news as internationals come in for ... (Lancashire Post)

Preston North End boss Ryan Lowe has made six changes for his side's Carabao Cup clash with Huddersfield Town.

There are also places on the bench for four youngsters in the PNE squad, Jacob Slater, Lewis Leigh, Dana Amaral and Mikey O’Neill all named as Lowe promised during the week. Lowe experimented in pre-season with a 3-4-2-1 system, with two 10's in behind the main striker, which could be McCann and Woodburn this evening. It is a real shake up to the side, that is normally so consistent, and there could be a change of shape.

Huddersfield Town midfielder Jon Russell has said Danny Schofield's half-time team talk against Birmingham City can be a wake up call.

“Everything we do is based on last season, it’s just getting up to speed and getting a habit and routine going. We’ve just got to get back to where we finished off last season and we’ll be fine. “It’s maybe like a wake-up call just to help us and lift us for the rest of the game and the season ahead, to get our minds right and get our focus correct.

Match Report: Huddersfield Town 1 PNE 4 (PNEFC)

Troy Parrott scored his first goal for the club inside just six minutes, before a double from Ali McCann – both assisted by Álvaro Fernández – put the visitors ...

Potts then came close to scoring what would have been an early shout for goal of the season, as he connected perfectly with Greg Cunningham’s cross from the left, and his volley hit the underside of the bar before then bouncing off the post. Ryan Lowe’s side – with six changes from the weekend – were relentless in the opening 45 minutes and were rewarded for their early work, as on six minutes, Parrott opened his account for the club, getting on the end of Lee Nicholls’ parry from Ryan Ledson’s effort, before finding the bottom corner. Brad Potts then got in on the act shortly into the second period, and while Jordan Rhodes was able to pull one back for the hosts, it was PNE who comfortably made their way through to the next round of the competition.

Match Report: Huddersfield Town 4-1 Preston North End - PNE turn ... (Lancashire Post)

Ryan Lowe made six changes to the Championship draw with Hull City on Saturday, with Patrick Bauer, Greg Cunningham, Ryan Ledson, Alvaro Fernandez, Ali McCann ...

Tino Anjorin released Jordan Rhodes in behind and he showed composure to slot the ball past the onrushing Freddie Woodman. His shot took a deflection on the way in but that did not stop the flying wing back's celebrations in front of the travelling support. He had McCann in support but chose to go alone, instead eating up the ground on the Northern Irishman and crowding himself out. After just six minutes though, they had the lead. After 19 minutes PNE had their second, Alvaro Fernandez got down the outside down the left and fizzed a low cross into the centre for the onrushing McCann who side-footed the ball into the back of the net. Patient build up was followed up by an increase in intensity as the ball got into the home side's half, Ryan Ledson's shot from the edge of the box was saved down low but Parrott was on the spot to turn the ball into the net.

Preston boss Ryan Lowe has calmed fears about Alvaro Fernandez, claiming he was only substituted against Huddersfield Town as a precaution.

Lowe added that Fernandez rolled his ankle and his substitution was just a precaution, with Preston expecting Fernandez to be okay from Thursday or Friday. The Spaniard took a knock just before half time and didn’t emerge for the second half, with Daniel Johnson brought on in his place. Brad Potts added a fourth in the second half before Jordan Rhodes grabbed a consolation for Huddersfield.
