George Rossiter returns to dissect the individual performances in yesterdays's draw with Wolves.
6/10 for both His versatility will continue to prove invaluable to Silva. 7/10 4/10. The day this man drops below a 7/10 will put me in a state of shock. 9/10 – Man of the match. 7.5/10.
Following the goalless draw with Fulham, Liam Keen rates the players on their performance.
Hwang had a good first 20 minutes and then tailed off. Hwang Hee-chan - 6 He won countless duels and covered all thirds of the field. Pedro Neto - 6 Giving away the penalty was very sloppy from Ait-Nouri, who is struggling so far this season. His penalty save proved decisive and prevented Wolves from suffering a damaging late loss.
A game where we should have won with the chances we had, it's clear we still need a few signings, particularly in an attacking sense. W.
Whatever your opinion is of Adama he is at the very least a good option to have, and we have seen it time and time again where we turn to him as a plan B to make something happen. We could have easily lost the game, when Ait-Nouri had a rush of blood to the head and fouled in the box. I’m still not quite sure how we didn’t make the most of their defensive mix up with Neto having the goal at his mercy, which perhaps should probably have been a telling sign it was going to be one of those days in front of goal. We could and should have won the game and I guess we’re one point better off already compared to last season. He lost complete control of the game in the last 10 minutes and made some bizarre decisions when it came to bookings. We did have options on the bench though, with Traore and Semedo back from injury and you can’t fault the timing of subs. Also good to see the bench looking stronger with Guedes and Traore, who both had quiet cameos, but can and will have a big impact for Wolves this season if we are to be successful. This is hard on Bruno as the first two games were both winnable and ones you would expect to get a minimum four points from. Whilst saying that I feel Dendoncker played well again and justified his position in the starting XI, not that there is much competition at the moment, but I do think Wolves need to bring in a replacement to partner Neves. A midfielder who can carry the ball forward and link the game because whilst there were positive moments, there wasn’t any constant pressure to the Fulham defence, especially in the second half, where bar Gibbs-White's sliding shot over the bar I don’t feel we caused them enough problems, when they were there for the taking. Overall we were the better team and got in some promising positions, especially the Neto opportunity where it then fell to Podence, still struggling now to see how we didn’t score there. With Guo Guangchang and Jorge Mendes at Molineux, we can all hope and assume that there are deals to be worked on before the window shuts. There was some signs of improvement, following the defeat to Leeds, but how long do we need to cry out for a striker?
A new season is supposed to bring an abundance of optimism but, for Wolverhampton Wanderers, a fresh start has quickly faded into a tale of familiar woe.
Wolves and Fulham held each other to a goalless draw at Molineux on Saturday.
He could have earned a valuable three points for The Cottagers, but nothing came from the Serbian - he also failed to get into the game for most of the fixture. Not too dissimilar to Kebano, De-Cordova Reid caused problems for Wolves, this time on the right flank. However, the 24-year-old showed, just like against Liverpool, that he can be shaky in possession - something his manager is trying to stamp out in his free-flowing philosophy. Nonetheless, he continued to defend on the front foot - a policy that Marco Silva admires in his fight for survival. Instead, he did all the hard work but failed to find a chance in the end. Although this would usually be a good thing to be selfless - but Wolves are in dire need to score goals! While Sa saved a penalty, Marek Rodak stopped Neto in his tracks, and both incidents proved vital to the point on the day. On the whole, Jonny played well in the first half, but he was targeted in the second and gave Kebano some joy. Arguably the Man of the Match, Sa did his job - it's a shame the attackers didn't. Dealing with the presence of Mitrovic in his first appearance for Wolves is no easy task, but Collins kept the Serb quiet for the most part. His problems cropped up defensively as he struggled to deal with Bobby De-Cordova-Reid, and brought him down for the penalty. The home side failed to convert a host of chances but could only get one shot on target for their efforts, with Bruno Lage's striker problem evident once again.
The Mexican can't return soon enough for Wolves, whose profligacy is becoming a serious concern despite the good chances they created against Fulham.
Lage must hope Jimenez returns focused and firing at the end of the month and exceeds last season's tally of six goals. There has been a lot of positive progress under Lage in the last season and a bit but all that will be undermined and they will slide down the table if they don't find a cutting edge. Wolves manager Bruno Lage was suffering from a sense of deja vu as his side went a ninth Premier League match without a win either side of the summer.
Wolves defender Nathan Collins is challenged by Andreas Pereira of Fulham. Wolves centre-back Nathan Collins also played a part in keeping Aleksandar Mitrovic ...
While the player's frustration was taken out on the left calf and forehead of Gibbs-White, Maximilian Kilman was the chief culprit for much of that pent-up emotion. Gibbs-White - who started strongly, as did Wolves, before failing to kick on after half-time - was understandably frustrated by the agricultural nature of the 'tackle' and perhaps knew what he was doing in provoking a reaction from Mitrovic by telling him exactly what he thought of the challenge. In failing to initially fell the Wolves wide player on the break, the opposition striker took a swipe at his calf to make sure to stop Wolves from advancing any further upfield. After a host of chances came and went, goalkeeper José Sá was called upon late on twice to preserve a point that had looked for much of the afternoon like tripling in value as the pressure piled on their opponents. The performance was there, though, against Fulham. Pedro Neto and Morgan Gibbs-White, as Lage was at pains to point out post-match, missed opportunities that they would more often than not score from. Nonetheless, they remained in the relegation zone and without a goal to show for their displays.
