Wigan Athletic v Cardiff City live - Latest updates (WalesOnline)

The Bluebirds travel up to the DW Stadium for this weekend's instalment of Championship action.

The first chance of the second half fell to Cardiff thanks to a lovely ball over the top from Perry Ng. Ng lifts a ball over the top and O'Dowda is through. It looked a glaring opportunity, but Harris flashed his chance across the face of goal and wide of the mark, prompting anger from Robinson, who was unmarked and would have had just a tap-in to double the lead if his strike partner had seen him in the middle of the box. He cuts inside and smacks one at goal, but Amos is strong and parries wide. But the official on the far side had his flag raised to deny Wintle his first Bluebirds goal. The left-back danced past three players before poking a ball through to O'Dowda. Corner is cleared but Wintle hooks a pass out to Ralls. Ralls plays a reverse pass to Ng, whose blasted low cross is deflected over. And the team got off to a flying start. While Niels Nkounkou divides opinion, there is no doubting the left-back's ability with the ball at his feet and it was that quality which led to Robinson's goal. Robinson flicked a ball over the top and into Harris' path before the Welshman headed the ball to get it under his control. That goal sparked the hosts back into life, though, and they enjoyed the better chances from then onwards.

Match Report | Wigan Athletic 1-3 Cardiff City | Cardiff (Cardiff City)

Goals from Callum Robinson, Sheyi Ojo and Ryan Wintle gave City a 3-1 victory over Wigan Athletic at the DW Stadium.

A minute later, City cut through once again on the break, with Ryan Wintle eventually tapping home from Mark Harris' low ball. Up next for City is a home clash with Coventry City next Saturday, October 15th. Unfortunately, the keeper did well to get down and deny the substitute a clear strike on goal. Nkounkou broke forward once again, squaring to O'Dowda, who fed Ojo with a low ball. A fine forward drive from Niels Nkounkou allowed the loanee to feed Robinson, who applied a calm finish past former City stopper, Ben Amos. However, the Republic of Ireland international's strike was parried away by the Latics stopper.

Niels Nkounkou played in Callum Robinson, who slotted past Ben Amos without too much fuss. Will Keane might have done better with a couple of opportunities, ...

And Cardiff should have scored a fourth right at the death, only for Ojo to hit the outside of the post when clean through. Latics threw on four substitutes in the final quarter to try to change the game, and one of them โ€“ Tom Naylor โ€“ crossed for Wyke to head home with eight minutes to go. Cardiff were knocking on the door, however, and doubled their lead with 25 minutes to go.
