Preston North End vs Swansea City live match updates from Deepdale (Accrington Observer)

The Lilywhites are back on home soil and looking for consecutive league wins, after Saturday's last-gasp victory against Middlesbrough. Jordan Storey popped up ...

Browne wins the ball back in the Swansea half and manages to keep it in down the left. Riis makes an outside run but the wing back crosses and Brady's follow-up delivery on the far side is deflcted behind for a corner - which Swansea manage to clear. Piroe hurls himself at it and Ntcham then attacks the ball at the back post, but Potts and Storey do enough to see it behind. Browne's cross isn't cleared by Darling, the loose ball falls to Evans who sees his shot saved and Potts is there to blast home on the rebound. A 30-yard free kick is played into the feet of Riis and his low cross deflects behind. Good chance but difficult for the captain to get over that one and direct it downwards. The resulting free-kick is curled out of play and that allows Russell Martin to make a double change. Swansea send a succession of crosses into the box, which cause problems, but the final one is volleyed over by Cooper and PNE survive. PNE fans raise the noise and get behind their team as Manning sends a wild cross out of play for a goal kick to North End. The game plan was set around triggers - when to go and when not to go. With PNE on top in the game but the opening goal still eluding them, it was Potts who stepped up and delivered when the loose ball broke kindly for him inside the box. After being second best over the course of the first half, Russell Martin was quick to change things up in search of an equaliser - with personnel and strategy adjusted.

Preston 1-0 Swansea: Brad Potts scores winner for North End (Sky Sports)

Report and free match highlights from the Sky Bet Championship clash between Preston and Swansea at Deepdale as Brad Potts scored the winner for Ryan Lowes ...

North End came close to grabbing a second early in the second half. Such was the flow of the game, the Swans soon threatened again, only for substitute Oli Cooper to volley wildly over the top from just 10 yards. A sweeping move culminated with Potts crossing in for Riis, only for the big Dane to side-foot wide from six yards. The Swans were looking a little ragged in the early stages, and it was no surprise when they threatened again. Preston's victory - a third in four matches - lifted them level on points with the Swans, who only remain in the top six on goal difference. Amid a rather subdued early atmosphere at Deepdale, it was the hosts who carved out the first opportunity.

A rare mistake in possession from Matt Grimes led to the captain being booked for a cynical foul that means he is now suspended for Saturday's clash with Wigan Athletic. Swansea must have thought they had equalised in the 59th minute as Fulton lashed goalwards from Paterson's corner, only for Woodman to palm away the Scot's fierce strike. It typified what had been a blunt and sloppy opening 30 minutes from the Swans who finally lifted the intensity levels after going behind. Swanea stay on the attack though. The Swans lacked creativity in the opening 45 at Deepdale and fell behind to Brad Potts' effort following a mistake from Harry Darling. Darling made a hash of clearing Browne's cross, and after Benda denied Ched Evans, Potts rifled home the rebound. The hosts looked to press the Swans high up the pitch, and it was Preston who created the game's first opening, although captain Alan Browne could only volley Robbie Brady's cross straight at Steven Benda from an acute angle. Ryan Lowe's men took confidence from their encouraging start, and they should have gone ahead following a slick passing move in the 17th minute, although Emil Riis failed to guide Potts' cross beyond Benda from six yards out. Cooper almost levelled in spectacular fashion, although his volleyed effort flew over from close range. Swansea play out from the back nicely from a throw. And the hosts took the lead on the half hour mark, with Swansea gift-wrapping the goal to Preston. In their bright orange away strip, Swansea - who had Naughton at right wing-back and Joel Latibeaudiere on the left of a back three from kick-off - saw plenty of the ball.
