Ellen Gargus has written several slice-of-life / historical pieces for Lac La Biche POST readers over the years. Her daughter Zanra Gargus-Lind submitted the ...

Mom remembers the day they were told they could wear pants to work and the day they were told they could have something called a “coffee break”. Knowing it is no longer safe for her to drive, she made a trip to the licensing registry to give up her driver’s license. That was until my mother, Ellen Gargus, became the first lady in Lac La Biche to get a driver’s license and change those statistics. [rollout of iOS 16](/tech/services-and-software/ios-16-cheat-sheet-your-complete-guide-to-the-iphone-update/) in June, apps that require age or identity verification should now be able to accept ID cards stored in your Apple Wallet app, Apple said. Almost all airlines will let you use a digital version of your boarding pass. The program is still in its infancy, and there's no guarantee the checkpoint you use will be set up to accept a driver's license on your Apple Wallet. [According to Apple](https://support.apple.com/guide/iphone/use-your-drivers-license-or-state-id-iph9f1847064/ios), "you don't need to unlock, show or hand over your device [to a TSA agent]." Apple built the technology to upload your ID to your Apple Wallet into iOS 15 for the iPhone. "The addition of driver's licenses and state IDs to Apple Wallet is an important step in our vision of replacing the physical wallet with a secure and easy-to-use mobile wallet," Jennifer Bailey, vice president of Apple Pay and Apple Wallet, said in a statement in 2021.
