He helps the team, he understands the coaching points, and he tries to emphasise them on the pitch rather than me getting hoarse shouting constantly from the sidelines." Having struggled with injuries at Huddersfield Town, Pritchard resurrected his career with the Black Cats and showed he's got plenty more to give. "We'll have to assess whether it was right that he went onto the pitch, yet he had trained for a good few days and was really confident, ready and champing at the bit. Kevin Stewart, Lewis Fiorini, Keshi Anderson, Liam Bridcutt, Theo Corbeanu and Jordan Gabriel, who was linked with a move to Sunderland last summer, remain sidelined for the Seasiders. Ross Stewart's sixth goal in five games helps Sunderland secure a point at struggling Blackpool, who have Callum Connolly sent off.
- Away5 - Shots It's good that we're disappointed coming away in the Championship and not taking three points." Arguably they're the best side that came here this season." That second goal eluded us, we had a couple of opportunities, and when it did and they got their equaliser it became difficult. It felt like a game of basketball really.

I got off to a tough start, but I love putting the red and white on and stepping out with the boys and trying to fight for the points with everyone behind us. However, he struggled in that position on his debut against Charlton in League One and dropped out of the team before establishing himself as a defender. Luke O’Nien says he hopes to have many more matches in the red and white stripes that he ‘loves’ after reaching 200 appearances for Sunderland.

The Seasiders boss spoke after the point picked up at Bloomfield Road against the Black Cats.
He said: “At the end of the day, you’re in there to make decisions anyway, but we’re making decisions not to prove any point or anything, it’s just we believe that those two were a better option today. He said: “I thought for 60 to 65 minutes, we went toe to toe with them and it was a really good game. Appleton felt his side deserved a share of the spoils at Bloomfield Road thanks to their defending and their first half showing in particular. Callum Connolly was sent off in injury time for a second bookable offence as the Seasiders ended the game with 10 men. But he instead went down on the edge of the box and was booked for simulation. In a frantic half of football, the Black Cats nearly got back on level terms through Amad Diallo.
A poor header into the Blackpool half caused the opening goal, compounded with Wright struggling to get back. Much better after the break though. Dan Ballard: 6 ...
Did well at right back today and is making a case to be Sunderland’s first choice in that position, even when injuries clear up. Put in a few good balls from the right hand side and got an assist with a clever header to Stewart. Much better after the break though.
Sunderland came from behind to draw 1-1 at Blackpool – but how did each player fare for the Black Cats?
Tony Mowbray has revealed that their Sunderland squad was severely hit by an illness bug in the build up to their 1-1 draw with Blackpool.
A few of the lads who played this afternoon have been in their beds the last couple of days with illness. "We've had a lot of illness in the camp and maybe that was partly why we started slowly. "There's things to work on but it's good that the players are coming away from a Championship game disappointed that they haven't taken three points.
Blackpool boss Michael Appleton described Sunderland as the best team his side have welcomed to Bloomfield Road this season. A Sunderland side ravaged by ...
“Obviously the second goal eluded us but we had a couple of opportunities. “We scored a good goal, a quality goal. They’re as good as I’ve seen come here this season. It was good timing of the pass, good timing of the run and a good finish. When they did equalise it became difficult for us but the lads stood up to the pressure, defended excellently at times and because of the way we defended and contributed in the first-half, I felt we deserved a point.” “Fair play to Tony [Mowbray], he’s got them playing well and they’re obviously in a good moment so we were playing them in a good spell.
The Black Cats headed to Bloomfield road in confident mood after back-to-back wins against Blackburn and Wigan, although they did have a bit of an injury and ...
Blackpool 1-1 Sunderland highlights WATCH: Blackpool 1-1 Sunderland - Goals and highlights Sunderland got their 2023 off to a frustrating start as they were held to a 1-1 draw at Blackpool on New Year's Day.
A number of players left their sickbeds yesterday to line up for the lads – something which wouldn't have happened in our last Championship season.
The transfer window is, of course, now open – and it’ll be interesting to see how it pans out for us. The lad’s class, and I am still keeping my fingers crossed an agreement is finally reached to extend his stay with us. Of course, we’d have all liked to have claimed all three and made it three wins on the spin – and, in reality, we should have done just that. And you get the sense that this is only the start. The importance of that strength of character cannot be underestimated – particularly when it’s combined with a hell of a lot of ability. They were all paid handsomely, ridiculously so, and had cost a hell of a lot of money between them too.
Here's how we rated the Seasiders in the New Year's Day clash against the Black Cats.
Relatively solid in possession when on the ball. In and out of the game. Callum Connolly was sent off in injury time for a second bookable offence as the Seasiders ended the game with 10 men. In a frantic half of football, the Black Cats nearly got back on level terms through Amad Diallo. But he instead went down on the edge of the box and was booked for simulation. Good work defensively to track back and help out and clinical finish to put hosts ahead. Restored to starting team on left flank of attack. Leeds United loanee operated in number 10 role. The bar came to Blackpool's rescue again after Stewart rattled the bar. Back as goalkeeper following injury in place of Dan Grimshaw. Shifted out to more natural position of left-back. [The Seasiders](https://www.lancs.live/all-about/blackpool-fc) took the lead just after 20 minutes when two players recalled to the starting team combined.
Winning on the road isn't easy, especially when you gift your opponent a goal after some bad defending. Taking everything into consideration, was a draw a ...
On the balance of play you’d have to say a point was probably a fair result, with Blackpool shading the first half and us the second. The lad on loan from Manchester United was unlucky not to grab an equaliser after 54 minutes when he bent a left footed shot towards the right hand side of Chris Maxwell in the Blackpool goal, but it was tipped around and out for a corner. Edou got an extra 15 minutes to turn things around and to be fair to him, the five minutes before he went off were probably his best spell in the game. Despite how clinical Ross Stewart is, he’ll rue missing the opportunity he stuck wide after a chest height cross from Amad was played along the face of goal. Soon after they went ahead, and I wasn’t really surprised - though, I was surprised by the state of our defending. Hume is younger and crucially, is a natural right back. He wasn’t the only one though, and it’s probably not fair to pin it all on him. He was seriously impressive throughout and capped off his performance with a quick thinking assist that further cements his credentials as our first choice right back. Michut in particular struggled, and after copping a yellow card for a tactical pull back (which was met with a clap and nod of approval from fellow shithouse Luke O’Nien) his effectiveness was limited. News early in the day suggested that a pair of players from our U18s squad, Chris Rigg and Tom Watson, would make up part of Tony Mowbray’s squad - further highlighting how many issues we’ve got with injuries and illness, but also a sign that Sunderland aren’t afraid to give kids a chance if they’re good enough, also showing them that the best place for them is here as we can offer a genuine pathway to senior football that other higher placed yet financially well off clubs (cough... Stewart comes in for the departed Simms, Roberts comes in for Ba. And you could tell.

"They threw quite a lot at it there in the later stages of the game but we stood up and did well with the challenge thrown at us. "For my goal I looked across and no one was there for the cutback so I just waited and the keeper sat down and I tried to find the corner and thankfully it went in. Speaking to the club website, Lavery said: "They're a very good side, they should be up there come the end of the season.
