Dekow clinched the seat after garnering 11572 votes against UDM's Nasir Dolal who got 8158 votes.

The by-election attracted six candidates including Ibrahim Malow of Narc Kenya who garnered 840 votes and ODM’s Abdifaisal Amin (ODM) who got 447 votes. Dekow clinched the seat after garnering 11,572 votes against UDM’s Nasir Dolal who got 8,158 votes. “I take this opportunity to thank Allah and the people of Garissa Township for electing me as their next Mp, I assure the people of Garissa that I will be their voice in and outside the parliament for those who were elected and those who didn’t,” said Dekow.

Garissa Township by-election was today characterized by low voter turnout with political leaders calling on voters to turnout and elect their MP.

This is a cosmopolitan constituency and the people’s choice must be accepted by all,” Duale said. “People have come out to vote, however, there is extremely low turnout and I appeal to our people to come out to exercise their rights,” Dolal said. Both UDA and UDM candidates who are the front runners for the seat expressed dismay at the low voter turnout asking voters to come and exercise their right to choose their representative in Parliament.
