What Are Rainbow Table Attacks? (MakeUseOf)

How do cybercriminals access your accounts? They might use rainbow tables to find out your password. Here's what that means and what to do.

Password hashing is a great and necessary security measure, but what if you and another person are using the same password? This is why it's important to use a different password for each account. Rainbow table attacks are not as common as they once were, but they still pose a significant threat to organizations of all sizes, and also to individuals. Organizations should stick to state-of-the-art algorithms such as SHA-256, which is so secure that it is used by government agencies in the United States, Australia, and elsewhere. A good password should be unique, and include small and capital letters, numbers, and special characters. Instead, you need to provide additional proof of your identity. [brute force attack](https://www.makeuseof.com/tag/brute-force-attack/), for example, the threat actor would need to decode every hashed password separately, calculate thousands of word combinations, and then compare them. After cracking a password, a threat actor has countless options as to how to proceed. The email provider automatically converts the plain text you entered into its hashed value, and compares it to the hashed value that it had initially stored when you first set up your password. This, in a nutshell, is how rainbow table attacks work. The next step would be converting the hashes to plain text. Ask Charm City Table: 5 dog-friendly spots in Baltimore (The Baltimore Banner)

I recommend trying one of the rotating Old Fashioned specials and pairing it with a plate of ribs or or brisket. Now that you and your furry friend have enjoyed a good meal, it is time for dessert. Take your dog on a walk at Lake Roland, which residents affectionately call “The Puppy Park,” and then head next door to treat yourselves to house-made Italian ice, ice cream, fresh squeezed lemonade, and more. The covered outdoor seating in O’Donnell Square is a comfortable setting for your puppy dinner date. Fells Point is one of the best destinations to have a meal with your pup. There are options for vegetarians and vegans, too, including the BBQ jackfruit sandwich. A portion of the event proceeds are donated to animal care organizations. On my recent visit, I tasted their s’mores old fashioned made with a flavored bourbon. For us humans, I recommend their MD Crab Benedict – poached eggs, fried green tomatoes, spinach, Old Bay seasoning and hollandaise. But she says more options for people who are out and have their dog with them would be helpful. Some have doggy menus while others fundraise and donate to animal shelters. During my search, I found over 150 dog-friendly restaurants in the city alone.

'Dark shadow over education': league table finds half of universities ... (LBC)

More than half of Britain's universities are teaching students a "woke ideology", a new league table has claimed.

Bristol is third, having discouraged the word "mankind" to be more inclusive. It comes after the degrees watchdog ordered universities to "decolonise" courses and teach about the impacts of "white supremacy". One example from the QAA for computing courses is addressing how "hierarchies of colonial value" are "reinforced" in the field. A Conservative MP and former education the minister slammed the universities in light of the findings, calling the teaching "poisonous". A spokesperson for the Russell Group said: "Our universities are places where free speech and the expression of all ideas and viewpoints is encouraged and protected. The table, put together by right-wing think thank Civitas, found that many students were being given "trigger warnings" for upsetting material, and were being taught about "white privilege" in "a new moralism that reeks of hypocrisy".

Seventy-nine institutions had mentions of ‘white privilege’ in guidance offered to staff and students or on their website, while 59 per cent were offering training materials or resources on ‘anti-racism’ online.
