They'll probably think they've still got a chance of the play-offs because of the squad they've got and they can put a run of results together. We know it's going to be a difficult game." They've got a really well built team, they've got a manager who's got a lot of games compared to his age. "They'll be wounded from the last couple of games. "Ateef played, and scored, on Friday and Tyler was sorted quickly yesterday so having him involved in training was good. Konate trained on Monday and Tuesday while Smith registered in time to join training yesterday.

Oxford United lose at home to League One play-off chasing Barnsley (Oxford Mail)

United lost Cameron Brannagan to injury in the first half, having been the victim of three forceful challenges. Minutes after watching Brannagan hobble off, ...

Robinson’s side continued to put the pressure on with Bate firing high and wide at the back post following a corner. The former U’s loanee slid the ball to Cadden, who was left with a simple finish past Simon Eastwood. McGuane came on in his place. Devante Cole charged down the right flank and played the ball to Kane in centre of the box. The visitors then had the first chance of the second period when Phillips flicked the ball wide at the near post from a Liam Kitching cross. There was time for one more chance at the end of stoppage time when Luca Connell fired a speculative volley across goal and wide from the left edge of the penalty box.

REDS EARN OXFORD HONOURS (barnsleyfc.co.uk)

Barnsley registered back-to-back victories with a fine performance on the road against the U's. Goals in either half from Bobby Thomas and Nicky Cadden ...

The hosts' barrage of long balls only increased as time went on, as did their propensity to use set-plays. There were moments of real quality in the building of moves, in and around the U's box. The game became stop/start with United midfielder Cameron Brannagan three times falling to the turf in pain. Despite a bright and dominant-looking start in Oxford, it was our hosts who had the first opportunity on the night. His first Reds goal, and crucial. A little period of frustration seemed to interrupt Barnsley.

“I don’t think it was a flattering game, I don’t think it was pretty on the eye, especially with the way they’re very aggressive in how they hold their line. “I thought it was two good teams in the first half, it was very even. “I don’t think you would’ve seen a massive gulf between a team really pushing for the play-offs and a team in a lost position, I don’t think that was evident on the eye.

Shrewsbury Guard of Honour (Oxford United)

Oxford United welcome Shrewsbury Town to the Kassam Stadium on Saturday and will be welcomed on to the pitch by our Guard of Honour from Kingston Colts.

The team members have changed significantly over the seasons as has the coaching staff but having fun and ensuring children get pitch time to express themselves has remained a key part of the team's ethic. There is a great team spirit amongst the boys and parents alike which has helped the journey to date be an enjoyable one with plenty of wins but more importantly smiles and enjoyment along the way. The under 12's are in their 6th season.

"The standard of training in the past couple of weeks has been very high and that's down to the subs. Everyone's on a high and everyone's coming in with a smile on their face and ready to work but [we've got] another game Saturday and we've got a tough couple of games coming up as well. We need the same form that we've had for the past four games and [we'll] see where that takes us. As I said, we've had a tough last couple of weeks with heavy pitches and last-minute wins but we wouldn't change that. "Win. "We're all ready for Saturday.
