Its gone flat in the stands and flat out on the pitch. The Robins go in ahead at the break courtesy of Mark Sykes' strike on six minutes and Sam Bell's goal just before the interval. Evans was alive inside the box and placed home on the rebound. Robbie Brady was the man at fault for the first, with his short back pass intercepted by Sykes - who rounded Freddie Woodman and rolled home. PNE play the corner short and it's cleared. Ched Evans pulled one back in the second half, on the hour mark, but PNE couldn't find that equaliser and it's another defeat at Deepdale. Ryan Ledson decided to have a pop from 25 yards and his bouncing effort was spilled by Max O'Leary, who allowed Ched Evans to run on to the loose ball and slot it into the bottom right corner. Ledson took on the shot from 25 yards and O'Leary spilled his bouncing effort. The volume inside Deepdale rises as tempers flare on the pitch. Brady will swing this one in from the right. North End heads didn't drop and they pushed for a leveller, but Nigel Pearson's men dealt the sucker-punch just seconds before the referee's half time whistle. The first chance of the game fell to Ryan Lowe's men, as Alan Browne picked out Tom Cannon at the back post but the Everton loan man's header was kept out by Max O'Leary.

Preston North End vs Bristol City live: Updates from Deepdale (Bristol Live)

All the build-up, live match action and reaction as the Robins look to stretch their unbeaten run to eight games in all competitions.

He tries a left-footed shot but it's right at the keeper. It's all gone a bit quiet and uneventful here at the moment. That one looks painful - Sam Bell is released on the left and he cuts inside to his right foot. Another good reaction save from O'Leary - City were sleeping at the back. City are camped back at the moment and a ball comes into Delap who is lurking inside the area. Those two are having a little bicker but Sykes does well to head away the delivery. O'Leary was rooted to the spot but City escape that one. O'Leary to the rescue once again! City are camped back, soaking up the pressure and trying to frustrate the home side. The visitors are playing with such confidence at the moment. It's bouncing around the area and City are throwing their bodies on the line! City weren't at their best but they had to dig deep to secure the three points.

In the next attack, Cannon found Brady at the back post on the edge of the six-yard box, but he couldn’t direct his header at goal. Cannon came so close to pulling one back for PNE on 49 minutes when he got on the end of Evans’ knockdown header, and he couldn’t have struck his first-time effort much better, but again O’Leary came out on top, diving to his left and tipping wide. PNE had made a bright start to the game – on the front foot from the off – and could have taken the lead on five minutes when Alan Browne found Tom Cannon with a searching cross, which the striker met with his head but it was saved by Max O’Leary.

But North End pulled one back just past the hour mark, Evans the man to get them back in it. PNE were booed off at the break but were trying to get themselves back into the game four minutes into the second half as Cannon flashed a volley at goal. PNE pushed again to draw level, this time Brady's deep cross was nodded back into the centre where Evans threw himself at the ball. Alan Browne's cross found the head of Cannon just a couple of yards out but the Everton loanee could not steer it past Max O'Leary in the Robins' goal. Browne's ball forward was nodded on by Evans into the path of his strike partner and his strike was clean but so was the contact with O'Leary's outstretched hand low to his left. [Robbie Brady](/topic/robbie-brady) was back to defend a pass looking for Sykes running down the right wing but his pass back to Freddie Woodman was short, allowing Sykes to collect it and round the North End 'keeper to open the scoring.
