“There are a lot of people who are a part of this show, and a huge part of the reason why this show is going to be as incredible as it is. That's a big part of why I wanted to do it." Everyone, we’re just tightening up everything, everybody’s dialling in, everybody’s tuning up and [it’s] a lot of moving parts. During an interview at Apple Music's Super Bowl press conference, she said: "To go on the biggest stage in seven years, there's something thrilling about the challenge of it all. "That was the hardest, hardest part. I just couldn't be a sellout." It’s incredible. I couldn’t have done it without them." "I couldn't be an enabler. Kansas City is super again: Chiefs beat Philadelphia Eagles 38-35 ... (NPR)

Chiefs quarterback and NFL MVP Patrick Mahomes led the Chiefs to their third Super Bowl victory (and second in three years).

The Eagles tried to let the Chiefs score a touchdown (to give them maximum time to try to score a touchdown of their own) but Kansas City ran the clock the down and kicked a field goal with 8-seconds left to go up 38-35. The Eagles punted on their next possession (just their second of the game) and the Chiefs capitalized. The Eagles decided to go for two to try to even the score. On the next drive, the Eagles booted a field goal to extend the score to 27-21 and that was the tally at the end of the third quarter. Mahomes came into the Super Bowl as a two-time NFL MVP in his third Super Bowl appearance (won in 2020 and lost in 2021). For the first time in the game, with 12-minutes left, Kansas City was leading: 28-27. The Eagles would not be slowed - going for it on two fourth-downs with Hurts capping the drive with a three-yard scamper for his second rushing touchdown to give the Eagles a 21-14 lead. So it was no surprise that as the Chiefs opened the second half, Mahomes was back leading his team. Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, the NFL MVP who has sparkled all season long, was tackled late in the second quarter as he scrambled to get a first down. What the scoreboard didn't show was the Eagles dominance. The Chiefs' Nick Bolton picked it up and darted into the end zone to even the score 14-14. But Jalen Hurts made a rare mistake fumbling the ball — the Eagles first turnover of the postseason — as he tried to evade a tackler.

Rihanna reveals pregnancy at Super Bowl half-time show (BBC News)

The singer surprised fans as she delivered a hit-heavy performance at the half-time show.

Fans of Rihanna admit the singer doesn't necessarily have the best voice in music. And surely everybody can all be grateful that her set wasn't dragged down by her most recent release - Lift Me Up from the soundtrack to Marvel's Wakanda Forever. In the late noughties and early 2010s, she churned out chart-toppers faster than the industry's top songwriters could compose them. But monster hits such as Rude Boy were balanced with the somewhat harder-edged and lesser-known Pour It Up. Model Cara Delevingne was among the attendees sporting one on Sunday. I couldn't be an enabler," she said at the time. Instead, Rihanna deployed some her biggest hits as she hurtled towards the end of her set, climaxing with her ode to British weather, Umbrella, and the rousing, anthemic Diamonds. But what has set Rihanna apart from some of her peers is the sheer number of hits she has to her name. Weird but whatever." "I just couldn't be a sellout. [her representatives confirmed](https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/music-news/rihanna-pregnant-rep-confirms-super-bowl-halftime-show-1235323383/) the singer was indeed pregnant with her second child. The singer rattled through several of her most recognisable hits, front-loading her set with some of her most danceable and up-tempo numbers including Only Girl (In The World) and the excellent Where Have You Been.

At the Super Bowl, Rihanna Returns to Music, Briefly (The New York Times)

And for Rihanna, playing halftime is a milestone befitting the scope of her achievements. Rihanna — one of the crucial pop hitmakers of the 21st century — needs the Super Bowl less than the Super Bowl needs her, and her performance was a master class in doing exactly enough. So in its marketing, the Super Bowl amplified how it was a coup to land her most visible effort in years. But the involvement of The event was the event. There was little variation in tone or energy, no aesthetic nods to the lightly themed set list. But for Rihanna, who [last year gave birth to her first child](https://www.nytimes.com/2022/04/07/style/rihanna-pregnancy-fashion.html), it was a stroke of performance savvy nonetheless — maybe the only gesture that could outshine, and reframe, the show she had just given. And she had not performed a show of this scale since 2016. Rihanna’s hits are plentiful — she has charted more than 60 times on the Billboard Hot 100 — and they are varied. During “Work,” she led them as if she were a tutor calling out moves but not participating in them. In 13 minutes, Rihanna casually performed snippets of 12 hits, universally known songs that don’t require much in the way of fluffing or bombast. She followed that song immediately with “Run This Town,” another collaboration with Ye (and Jay-Z).

Rihanna Soars Through Super Bowl Set Before Pregnancy Reveal (Variety)

Rihanna soared high above the crowd in a relatively low-key Super Bowl performance — with good reason: The singer's rep confirms Rihanna is pregnant.

The production didn’t hold back, unleashing fireworks on the third song, just a couple of minutes into the performance. None of that happened, as she played it straight with a visually impressive but relatively low-key — low-key for the Super Bowl, anyway — set that didn’t feature a single song less than six years old. Clad in a bright red jumpsuit with a sort of plastic halter, Rihanna began the set provocatively with “Bitch Better Have My Money” (murmuring or skipping the first word) from a platform high above the field, flanked by other platforms with dancers on them.

Three Attributes Of A Great Super Bowl Ad (Forbes)

Many articles that review Super Bowl ads emphasize a single person's opinion or a view of the average consumer. In this article, I consider advertising from ...

Another ad that is getting positive attention for its high entertainment value is [Bud Light’s “Hold,”](https://admeter.usatoday.com/commercials/bud-light-hold-easy-to-drink-easy-to-enjoy/) which converts the pain of being on hold into an opportunity to dance and drink a Bud Light. While it is easier to deliver any one of the above criteria, it is quite difficult to do all three in a single :30 second spot. The risk of course is that it doesn’t compel consumers to want to buy the product. 3) The ad engages and entertains consumers in a way that drives recall. 2) The drama in the ad is connected to the product or service. It is easy to have a funny or dramatic story that is not clearly linked to the product - and therefore it becomes a distraction. An example from this year that did a very good job connecting the drama in the story to a unique feature of the product is In both cases, the shape of Doritos and the production of Weather Tech are differentiating elements of their brands and the drama in the ads reinforced it. Many consumers are not likely aware of the ongoing storyline and if viewing the ad in isolation, it fails to link the drama to anything that is actually unique or differentiated about the product. Not surprisingly, when brands focus on the unique value that they create for consumers, they are more likely to convince consumers to consider (and buy) them. 1) The ad convincingly and clearly communicates some element of competitive advantage about the product or service. After reading lists of Super Bowl ad “hits and misses,” it’s apparent that many represent an individual’s point of view regarding what ads they liked and why.

Mahomes leads Chiefs to comeback win against Eagles in Super ... (The Guardian)

An explosive second half helped the Kansas City Chiefs to their second Super Bowl title in four years in a thrilling contest in Arizona.

That set the stage for Mahomes: tied at 35-35 in the Super Bowl with five minutes left and 75 yards from the end zone. But clinging to their last hope, Philadelphia fired back with an eight-play, 75-yard scoring drive highlighted by a 49-yard reception by Smith on the penultimate play then another Hurts touchdown run – his third on the night. The Eagles marched methodically downfield from there, going 60 yards on 17 plays – including a highlight-reed catch by Dallas Goedert along the Philadelphia sideline – before settling for another Elliot field goal and a 27-21 lead in the dying minutes of the third quarter. It marked the first time in a quarter-century that a team received the opening kickoff in the Super Bowl and drove it down the field for a touchdown. For the first time in Philadelphia’s marauding postseason run, in the fourth quarter of the Super Bowl, they found themselves behind. Then Toney returned Aaron Siposs’s second punt of the game around the field and down the Philadelphia sideline, a 65-yard return that placed the Chiefs within five yards of the end zone: the longest punt return in Super Bowl history. Then, on the first play of the second quarter, Hurts took his shot downfield and connected on a 45-yard touchdown to Brown. The Eagles would score once more before half-time through a 35-yard field goal from Jake Elliot, opening a 10-point lead in a half where they controlled the ball for nearly 22 minutes. Of the seven quarterbacks who had started a Super Bowl before their 25th birthday entering Sunday’s game, only two had played even remotely well: Tom Brady in the 2001 season and Mahomes in 2018. The Eagles soon got the ball back after a Chiefs drive stalled. It was the sort of scripted opening drive that Chiefs coach Andy Reid has made his hallmark since entering the head coaching ranks with, of all teams, Philadelphia back in 1999. The Chiefs won the toss and deferred, as they have all but once all year, placing the ball in Hurts’ hands to start.

Hobbled Mahomes gilds legend with latest Super Bowl magic act (The Guardian)

Kansas City's supremely gifted quarterback was close to flawless when it counted, building his case as the greatest quarterback to ever lace them up.

The fact that Mahomes sees it, already, at 27 years old, might be the biggest reason to think he really could get to seven Super Bowl wins of his own. When his team needed leadership, Mahomes provided it, responding to a Philadelphia touchdown on the opening drive by taking his team the length of the field in eight plays to tie things back up. Tradition dictates that the prize-winner gets a trip to Disney World. But even that might be part of the point. The most important thing, he said, “is just going out there and playing like it’s another game”. The Eagles had 70 sacks during the regular season, 15 more than any other team in the NFL, and eight more in the postseason. This is what the great ones do, putting their troubles to one side and their teams on their backs in the moments that matter. Plenty might scorn the latter suggestion, observing that he still only has two Super Bowl wins to Tom Brady’s seven, but the truth is that comparing a complete career with an ongoing one is pointless in any case. There are moments, though, when Mahomes will make you think he can: a human tornado whipping around so fast in the middle of the pocket that the league’s best pass rush wound up scattered across the field here like debris. It does not matter who you believe the greatest of all time is, was or will be, no player will ever exist who can carry the show all on their own. None of his seven titles arrived in the four seasons when he outgunned his peers. The last sentence almost felt like an understatement but that was Reid’s point too, as he stressed the player’s humility.

Review: Rihanna's Super Bowl Halftime Show misses the mark (The National)

While delivering the hits, the Barbadian star's performance felt more suited to an awards show.

It was slick and professional but it felt like a performance more suited for an awards show than the Super Bowl, one of America's biggest TV events of the year. The choreography was tight and frenetic, as expected, but there was no method to the mayhem. The Barbadian pop star answered these questions as soon as she stepped on to the stage of the State Farm Stadium on Sunday night in the US state of Arizona.

But on Kansas City’s final drive, Mahomes controlled the clock with short passes before breaking through with a 26-yard run to position Kansas City inside the red zone with a little over two minutes remaining. Reid coached the Eagles from 1999 to 2012, and led the team to a Super Bowl berth in the 2004 season. Mahomes knelt on the next two downs before Harrison Butker kicked a 27-yard field goal to provide the final score. But since trading up to select Mahomes in the first round of the 2017 N.F.L. Facing third-and-8, Mahomes again targeted Smith-Schuster with a short throw but cornerback James Bradberry was called for defensive holding on the play, a penalty which gave Kansas City a new set of downs. Three plays later, Mahomes threw a 4-yard touchdown to the rookie Skyy Moore to give Kansas City a 35-27 lead with just over nine minutes remaining. Hurts carried in a 2-yard run, his third touchdown carry, before punching in a 2-point conversion that tied the game at 35-35 with just over five minutes remaining. With the additions of Marquez Valdes-Scantling and JuJu Smith-Schuster in free agency, Mahomes adapted his style to look for shorter throws, which proved effective throughout the season and helped fuel Kansas City in the second half Sunday. The scamper seemed to embolden Mahomes against the Eagles’ stout defense before Pacheco ran in a 1-yard score to narrow Philadelphia’s lead to 3 points. “You look back and you reflect on the things maybe you could have done something more, maybe you could have tried to done something that could change the outcome of the game and that’s the way it was.” With just over one minute left in the first half and Kansas City trailing by 21-14, Mahomes scrambled outside the pocket but Eagles linebacker T.J. Three days later, he added the second Super Bowl victory of his career, throwing for 182 yards and three touchdowns to beat the Philadelphia Eagles, 38-35.
