If you log on to social media following a Chelsea defeat, fans are often bombarding Potter with criticism over what he has said after the game. As much as I think Potter should leave his role, I am one for a long-term project at the club and if there is still genuine belief from the owners over the head coach, then I'm all for it. Not only is Potter not Tuchel, he's the complete opposite. However, he perhaps should have been briefed beforehand by the club how the supporters would react to these sorts of comments. Any manager could have walked through the door to replace the immensely popular German and would have been treated with disrespect. Eight signings were made in January, not even to mention the squad overhaul in the summer from the squad he took over from They need a head coach who looks like they're willing to die for the team when they're on the side of the pitch - what we saw with He hasn't been treated well or backed by the majority of the fans since he took over from Tuchel. The German head coach is the polar opposite to what we see now with Potter. However, most managers in world football would jump at the chance to use around £500million worth of new players – world-class players. After the game on Saturday afternoon, Graham Potter insisted he was not the problem at Chelsea. He's not the 'winner' Chelsea need right now.

DANIEL MATTHEWS: Chelsea did as they so often do now, too: they fired a blank, failed to win, but the message from above remained consistent.

If you look at Enzo Fernandez, Mykhailo Mudryk, Noni Madueke, they are young players who have not played that many games, they are learning to play in the Premier League. This is a long-term project and Potter has pleaded for time. Now Potter faces his own battle to cling on. They are 10th — as close to 17th as to the Champions League places. Particularly when Fofana was hooked at half-time as Chelsea struggled to break down the division’s bottom side. After less than a week in charge, he has given Southampton renewed direction and hope of staying up. ‘All these things are true but unfortunately when you lose they are not what people want to hear,’ Potter said. ‘When results aren’t going well, this is the world we are in,’ Potter said. One fan insisted Potter was the worst manager this club had seen. In one corner of the Shed End, where Southampton’s supporters — now daring to believe — serenaded interim boss Ruben Selles. The club back manager Graham Potter and his long-time project. And everywhere else, where bubbling frustration spilt over to create a powerful mix of fury and mutiny.

3 Things Graham Potter got wrong in Chelsea 0-1 Southampton (The Pride of London)

Consecutive defeats to Borussia Dortmund and Southampton in the have condemned Chelsea to just two wins in their last 15 games.

Chelsea fans are right to demand better, and Potter has much to do in order to bring the fans back on side. An understandable result of constant injuries to key players and an unfortunate by-product of adding 6 first-team players into the team across the Janaury transfer window, Potter has never had the luxury of having consistent options upon which he could rely on. One of the biggest problems Potter has had to overcome, as he himself frequently talks about, is the lack of consistency in terms of the squad from which he could select a starting eleven from.

Tenth-placed Chelsea may have suffered a 1-0 defeat to Southampton on Saturday but owner Todd Boehly is reportedly standing by manager Graham Potter.

The Croatia defender, who also told the paper “my goal in my career is to play in the Premier League”, will get his chance to take on some of the league’s best when the 21-year-old’s side face Manchester City in the Champions League on Wednesday. The RB Leipzig centre-back has told the Times he “wants to play in the Premier League”, could have signed for Chelsea last summer and also came closing to joining Leeds in 2020. Tuchel took over at the Parc des Princes ahead of the 2018-19 campaign and led the Parisians to two league titles and the Champions League final before being sacked.

Chelsea have just the one win from their last 10 matches in all competitions with the pressure continuing to mount on head coach Graham Potter at Stamford ...

[Noni Madueke](https://www.football.london/all-about/noni-madueke) on the right and the right-footed [Mason Mount](https://www.football.london/all-about/mason-mount) on the left, they were both tempted to cut in all of the time, making the space on the wing pointless essentially. The low-block might be seen as a 'boring' way to play football and it is often criticised, but it's so effective, especially against a team like Chelsea, who at the moment, do not look like a team with an attacking plan. [Joao Felix](https://www.football.london/all-about/joao-felix) was not his usual self and that was because of the tremendous job Ward-Prowse and Romeo Lavia did of restricting the Portuguese to precious little. But if this is done at a moderate speed, then there's no desperation from the defender's point of view and they can just shuffle across with ease and there is less space to then exploit. [Reece James](https://www.football.london/all-about/reece-james), who was being rested, was also an issue for [Potter](https://www.football.london/all-about/graham-potter). The more the game went on, the deeper the Saints defence stood and the more difficult it became for Chelsea to find any space between the lines. They were, however, unable to do that often enough. It happens to every top team in the Premier League. Instead it was the Saints who took the points at the Bridge in something that Chelsea have almost become used to this season. Southampton were the latest to do that and to be fair to caretaker manager Ruben Selles, his game-plan worked perfectly. However, the likes of Manchester City and Arsenal – this season, anyway – have been able to break the opposition down. Look at the difference in the two teams' heatmaps.

Todd Boehly is expected to stick by Graham Potter following Chelsea's unexpected 1-0 defeat to bottom of the table side Southampton but if results do not ...

Mourinho, given all he achieved at Stamford Bridge would be exactly that. Boehly already displayed his ruthless streak back in September when brutally sacking Thomas Tuchel, so what options are on the table if he does decide change is necessary? That said, he does not align with Boehly's long-term vision and welcoming him back to the club really would be a throwback to the days of Roman Abramovich. Following his departure, he made it clear just how much it hurt leaving Chelsea and you would have to say he would surely jump at the chance to return. Zidane does not speak English, however, and there is a sense he would only like to return to the clubs he previously played for. Now he could be a genuine option for Chelsea and if his second tenure with Real Madrid is anything to go by, he knows how to gel a team together quickly.
