Laurent brace and Baker strike earn Stoke victory over woeful Swans (WalesOnline)

The Swans suffered their fourth defeat in five matches to lose further ground on the Championship's top six.

Ntcham fails to control a Manning throw-in, and Stoke win the ball back. Liam Cullen then came on for Sorinola with just over 10 minutes left on the clock in what was one final roll of the dice from Martin. But the hosts failed to build on that dream start and gave the Potters plenty of hope with some risky play in their own half. It was no less than the Potters deserved as their pressure forced Swansea into mistakes time and time again. Having survived a few scares with Morgan Fox and Jacob Brown having efforts, the Swans conceded yet another cheap goal. What a strange old night. And Whittaker took just shy of two minutes to make a telling impact. Russell Martin made three changes to the side that started against Blackburn Rovers three days earlier. Ryan Manning was then denied by the Stoke goalkeeper as Martin sent on Olivier Ntcham for Harry Darling with half an hour gone in a switch that saw the home side move to a back four. Sorinola lofted a direct ball towards the Stoke box after the visitors had cleared a corner, and Whittaker controlled it beautifully on his chest before prodding beyond Matija Sarkic via the crossbar to net his first goal for the club since bagging a hat-trick against his now former club Plymouth Argyle in what was Martin's first month as boss. But the Swans were alarmingly sloppy in possession at the back after that and saw Josh Laurent strike twice in the space of four minutes before Lewis Baker struck in injury-time to earn the Potters all three points as Swansea lost for the fourth time in five matches. The hosts made a dream start at the Swansea.com Stadium as Morgan Whittaker scored in the second minute on what was his first start for the club since returning from his loan spell with Plymouth Argyle.

English Championship Odds: Swansea vs. Stoke prediction, pick ... (ClutchPoints)

The Swans will challenge the Stokies! Read our English Championship odds series, with a Swansea-Stoke prediction and pick in tow.

Stoke suffered a big blow over the weekend as they lost away at relegation-threatened Blackpool to ensure the Potters need to keep looking over their shoulders. The Swans will take advantage of their home crowd support and get the three points here. They are hoping to battle for a spot in the playoffs for promotion to the Premier League. The Swans share the same points with Hull and Preston, and they are a few points away from Luton, Watford, Sunderland, Millwall, and Blackburn. Swansea hopes to inch closer to the promotion playoffs, as Sunderland, Millwall, and Blackburn hold a seven-point buffer over them. Stoke City seeks to find its second win this February to gradually rise in the Championship table.

“His flexibility will help us, his finishing ability will help us and we are looking forward to seeing him have a strong finish to the season.” Martin also revealed Jay Fulton and Luke Cundle’s absences from his squad against Stoke were due to injuries picked up against Blackburn at the weekend, but he is hopeful they will have a chance of being available for Monday’s game against Rotherham at the Swansea.com Stadium. “He wants to play in the middle of the pitch, he does not really want to be out wide but he did great when he was out there, as well.
