Hearts vs Celtic – LIVE updates (Scottish Daily Record)

It's a big one in Gorgie as Robbie Neilson's side get a second crack at Ange's Treble chasers in the space of three days.

A corner comes in but Celtic clear the danger. An incredible save to keep Sibbick's shot on the spin out. [Celtic](https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/all-about/celtic-fc) have the added motivation of trying to secure a Treble – their fifth in seven seasons if they pull it off. But no booking again and Celtic back on the pass as they pin Hearts back and grab a second before the break. Ginnelly was on the follow up and Hart is incensed with the referee for not awarding a foul. And straight away at the other end Celtic are in again but Jota sees his ball for Kyogo turned away for a corner which Carter Vickers heads over from. Hearts are doing well and a couple of pinball moments in the box fall Celtic's way and they are able to clear the danger. On the break and so dangerous as the winger has a pop after spinning free of a challenge. And are able to get back on the ball and take the sting out of the hosts. Smith makes an error trying to beat Jota out the corner, he is robbed of the ball but the winger mercifully miscues from a Hearts perspective. More fresh legs for the champions in hunt for a return to Hampden in the Scottish Cup. But the opposition are formidable and Celtic have lost only two domestic games since September 2021 – the task is tall if Hearts fans are to experience a day to remember in the marquee weekend fixture.

But outwith that we can look back and know we gave absolutely everything we had. In the final I thought we were disappointing in the first half but did very, very well in the second half to get back into it. “We have said it all along that if you are going to have aspirations of winning the cup then you will probably have to play one of the top two at some point. So, to have them at Tynecastle, which will be bouncing, with that carrot of knowing that if you win you get to Hampden, is brilliant. If you take the positives from previous meetings, we know we can do it when we are on it. But that’s the objective for us, that’s what we want to do.

With the League Cup already banked and a nine-point advantage sustained in the league, the cup is now there for the taking. Celtic cruise to victory in emphatic Scottish Cup quarter-finals win over Hearts... Joe Hart’s save was a reminder of past glories, a low leap to his left and then courage to reach for the breaking ball even though Hill’s approach guaranteed a sore one for the former England keeper. There’s a school of thought that Jota does his best work for Celtic operating off the left flank, but with Haksabanovic on that beat he offered a forceful reminder that he is quite comfortable operating as an orthodox winger on the right. Ahead within two minutes and still still pressing for goals at the death, this was a performance that swiftly dismantled the sense that this was a quarter-final tie fraught with danger.

There was simply nothing to see here and Neilson made himself look a bit daft, especially on the end of another Celtic Park defeat. The Hoops head coach seemed baffled by the suggestion that the American goes under the radar with his performances.

“I don’t think he goes under the radar at all. “I don’t know about that,” the Celtic boss countered. But it’s what he does for us at the other end that’s really important.” But Postecoglou refused to indulge in Treble talk. For him, there’s no-one better in the division and talked up the former Tottenham man, not just for his Tynecastle display, but for how he’s done since joining the Parkhead club since Postecoglou brought him north of the border in the first place. Aaron Mooy and Kyogo had already done the damage in the first half as the champions progressed to the last four alongside Inverness CT.
