The best actress race is between Cate Blanchett (“Tár”), Ana de Armas ( [“Blonde”](https://www.nytimes.com/2022/09/28/movies/blonde-review-marilyn-monroe.html)), Andrea Riseborough ( [“To Leslie”](https://www.nytimes.com/2022/10/06/movies/review-to-leslie.html)), Michelle Williams (“The Fabelmans”) and Michelle Yeoh (“Everything Everywhere All at Once”). The favorite for best picture, Buchanan wrote, is “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” although there’s plenty of room for an upset, maybe from “All Quiet on the Western Front.” Nothing is certain, of course — except perhaps that Kimmel’s opening monologue will make some kind of crack about [“the slap”](https://www.nytimes.com/2023/03/05/arts/chris-rock-netflix-oscars-slap.html) at last year’s ceremony. [“Everything Everywhere All at Once,”](https://www.nytimes.com/2022/03/24/movies/everything-everywhere-all-at-once-review.html) the proudly weird sci-fi movie from the filmmaking duo of Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, will go into the ceremony leading with the most nominations (11 total, including for best picture), followed by Martin McDonagh’s [“The Banshees of Inisherin”](https://www.nytimes.com/2022/10/20/movies/the-banshees-of-inisherin-review.html) and Edward Berger’s [“All Quiet on the Western Front,”](https://www.nytimes.com/2022/10/27/movies/all-quiet-on-the-western-front-review.html) each of which have nine. Follow our coverage of the Oscars ceremony and live performances as the biggest names in Hollywood descend on the Dolby Theatre for the 95th Academy Awards.

Fans will be on the look-out for the best and most elaborate outfits, but there's a special accessory to look out for this year. The great and the good of the film industry gather in Hollywood tonight and all eyes will be on the red carpet for those jaw-dropping Oscars looks. This lovely video from the Academy shows the reactions of some of the big stars in the running for tonight... The film has picked up more than 11 nominations and has been praised for its depiction of the modern immigrant family in the USA. Fraser, star of 'The Whale', is tipped to win the prestigious Best Actor category. This could be a night to remember for Michelle Yeoh, Oscars Best Actress nominee, and she has marked the occasion with a truly unforgettable look. Next up, fellow Best Actor nominee Paul Mescal goes for a classic style with the white jacket and pop of colour from the red rose. The film was nominated for nine Oscars, and still has a chance to add wins tonight... To present the award for Best Visual Effects, Banks appeared alongside a person dressed in a bear costume. A suspenseful and dramatic film, AQotWF takes viewers to the trenches and into the minds of those on the front line. On Sunday evening, the Oscar for Best International Film was, predictably, won by the outstanding German-language ‘All Quiet on the Front’. While 'All Quiet of the Western Front' gave the A24 film a run for its money, but there is a clear winner tonight.

Brendan Fraser is among nominees at the 95th Academy Awards, which are being hosted by Jimmy Kimmel.

The network is also streaming the ceremony on its website and app. Unusually, that means British viewers can watch the Oscars on Freeview and Freesat. He also paid tribute to composer John Williams, the oldest nominee in Oscars history. The Banshees of Inisherin has four acting nominations, including Colin Farrell and Kerry Condon. He most recently presided over the 2018 event. This is the American dream. Interestingly, Halle Berry has also been invited to present. "They say Hollywood is running out of ideas. At the Oscars, the World War One epic is the bookies' second favourite to take the top prize, followed by The Banshees of Inisherin. At this point, Everything Everywhere All at Once is the clear frontrunner, having won nearly every major precursor it needed to - with the notable exception of Bafta. Thank you so much for welcoming me back." Later in the ceremony, Everywhere All at Once is the favourite to win best picture after success on this year's awards' circuit.

See the trends from the 2023 Oscars 'red' carpet (The Washington Post)

The most divisive fashion statement on the red carpet of the 95th Academy Awards may have been the carpet itself.

It’s an unusual hue for an Oscars gown, certainly — and perhaps it was the pivot away from a red carpet that created the opportunity to finally wear orange. Model Winnie Harlow, who told E’s Laverne Cox that she was aiming to re-create 2000s glam, wore a sporty 2005 Armani in soft yellow with a sequined black rosette and a zipper snaking up one side. Oscar winner Ariana DeBose (“West Side Story”) wore a white Atelier Versace with a plunging neckline, sharp shoulders and mirror-like beading in geometric patterns. Sigourney Weaver (“Avatar: The Way of Water”) wore spiky earrings and a shimmering, gold long-sleeved Givenchy gown with an animal print that glimmered like fish scales. (“Everything Everywhere All at Once”) reached for a head-turning Adeam tuxedo ensemble: a long white jacket with navy-blue trim, paired with navy slacks and a navy silk obi belt. Best actor nominee Brendan Fraser (“The Whale”) paired his black Giorgio Armani tux with one.

But the singer’s performance, from its heart-wrenching introduction from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever star Danai Gurira (offering her remembrance of the late, great Chadwick Boseman) to its soulful sound, made its mark on the entirely-too-long awards show. No one could imagine that host Jimmy Kimmel’s Oscar-night crowd work would take him to Malala Yousafzai, the Pakistani activist targeted by the Taliban (and Oscar-nominated executive producer of the documentary short Stranger at the Gate). If you’re going to shove a grown adult into a warm bear suit on Hollywood’s biggest night, the least they could have done was smear some white powder on his face for kicks. We need heroes sometimes. Thank you, thank you, thank you!” Since Everything Everywhere All At Once became a frontrunner at the Oscars, Quan has been vocal about how much the film has changed his life. Telugu song Naatu Naatu is up against heavyweights like Lady Gaga and Rihanna at the 2023 Academy Awards.

Nearly a year after its release, the song is still going strong with the audiences. In past interviews, the director has confessed that people called him "crazy" for shooting in a country on the verge of war. Ram Charan and NTR Jr then turn to take on each other and a dance competition between the two heroes follows. Since the film's release last year, fans have been trying to replicate the intricate foot swivels and catchy dance moves. Rakshit said he made 30 versions of the signature step in which NTR Jr and Ram Charan dance with their arms around each other. "Each of them [the actors] have their own style," Rajamouli said in an earlier interview.

If the Tonys can tote a [goat](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=svc26VIJ2pM) through the audience, it’s about time the Oscars hopped on the furry bandwagon … That’s what one of the animated short filmmakers, Matthew Freud (“The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse”), said as he apologized to all those who helped but couldn’t be onstage with him. And without the winning live-action short “An Irish Goodbye,” starring James Martin as a man with Down syndrome, would we have had the entire Dolby Theater serenading him with a round of “Happy Birthday”? Yes, the two are stars of the live-action “Little Mermaid,” with Bailey in the lead role, and the ceremony has often had actors in coming projects announce winners. After rare wins for women in the last two years — Chloé Zhao for “Nomadland” and Jane Campion for “The Power of the Dog” — no female directors were recognized at this year’s ceremony. The first-time nominee had been considered a front-runner for the Oscar since the film premiered at the Venice Film Festival at the end of the summer, and his win was the grace note on a lovely comeback story. “If anyone in this theater commits an act of violence at any point during the show, you will be awarded the Oscar for best actor and permitted to give a 19-minute-long speech,” he joked near the top of the show, starting a string of jokes related to the Slap. Unlike the decision to swap the red carpet for a champagne-colored version, which was supposed to make the arrival segment feel contemporary but instead mostly made a lot of the dresses disappear, the reworn looks came closest to making the carpet seem relevant. Equally successful was Rihanna’s homage to Chadwick Boseman in “Lift Me Up,” with her band and backup singers ensconced in designs that resembled thatched roofs and the singer on a movable riser. Her win — also the first for a Malaysian performer — was one of many breakthroughs for Asian artists on Sunday.

The introductory speeches weren't too painful, and the jokes weren't bad.

Oscars 2023: What Do Academy Award Winners And Nominees ... (Outlook India)

Oscars 2023: From Everything Everywhere All At Once and RRR to Elephant Whisperers, the Oscar winners have set the stage on fire with their glitz and glam.

What the media terms as an ‘Oscar Effect,’ is something that happens to the Oscar winners. As per international media reports, the ‘Oscar Effect’ means that winners sometimes become a more desirable choice of directors and studios. While the Oscars’ ‘Everyone Wins’ gift bags is a refined symbol of exclusivity, it also reportedly tries to have products from companies that are owned by women or people coming from minority backgrounds. According to media reports, this year, the ‘Everyone Wins’ Oscar gift bag features over 60 items, ranging from beauty and lifestyle products, to luxury vacations. While the Oscar trophy is reserved just for the winners, the ‘Everyone Wins’ gift bag is something that many take back home. The golden desire, made of solid bronze and plated in 24-karat-gold, is 13 and a half inch tall and crafted by Polich Tallix fine art foundry in New York’s Hudson Valley.

Oscars 2023: Everything Everywhere All at Once Dominates With 7 ... (Variety)

'Everything Everywhere All at Once' dominated the 2023 Oscars with seven wins, including best picture, best director and best actress.

“All Quiet on the Western Front,” an adaptation of Erich Maria Remarque’s novel about trench life during World War I, picked up four Oscars, including the prize for best international features. Maybe even give the assailant a hug.” “Sit there and do absolutely nothing. With its multiverse storyline, and off-beat touches such as a character with hot dog hands and weaponized dildos, “Everything Everywhere All at Once” represents a radical departure from the kind of staid prestige fare that historically dominated the Oscars, but the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences has changed dramatically in recent years. This is the American dream.” He thanked his director Darren Aronofsky for “throwing me a creative lifeline and hauling me aboard.” “My journey started on a boat,” he said. To all of you out there, please keep your dreams alive.” The late night comic wasted no time bringing up the big moment from last year’s ceremony, when Will Smith charged the stage and slapped Chris Rock for making a joke about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith’s bald head (Pinkett Smith suffers from alopecia which leads to hair loss). “For all the little boys and girls who look like me watching tonight, this is a beacon of hope and possibility,” she added. “I spent a year in a refugee camp and somehow I ended up here on Hollywood’s biggest stage. The film, a gonzo adventure about a Chinese-American laundromat owner grappling with an IRS audit and inter-dimensional attackers, earned seven statues, including original screenplay and directing honors for its creators Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert (collectively known as the Daniels).

Now, That Wasn't So Hard, Was It? (Vulture)

The 2023 back-to-basics Academy Awards ceremony (where 'Everything Everywhere All at Once' won Best Picture, along with almost every major acting prize) ...

The offbeat nature of the Daniels’ films speaks to the fact that they are the result of a pretty free give-and-take, a collection of ideas from many different people. (This, by the way, was one of the [saving graces](https://www.vulture.com/2021/04/2021-oscars-review-a-film-production-that-ran-out-of-money.html) of the pandemic-hobbled 2021 show.) If desperation is the fuel that powers the Oscars, then these studio ads were the most desperate moments of the night. I like EEAAO a great deal, and I like the Daniels as people and artists. All that stuff about how closely they work with their collaborators and the power of the collective isn’t just awards-season blather; all these people really are close friends, and they really do live and work in close proximity to each other. I’d say the same for David Byrne and Stephanie Hsu’s rendition of the song from EEAAO, but I didn’t even know there was a song from EEAAO. On the other side, Curtis is [a legend](https://www.vulture.com/article/jamie-lee-curtis-last-halloween-interview.html) who has been working steadily for decades and made some enormously popular movies, but has rarely been thought of as an Oscar contender; for her, this was not just an acknowledgement of a body of work, but also maybe an admission that movies like the ones she tends to make matter. [abandoned acting](https://www.vulture.com/article/ke-huy-quan-everything-everywhere-all-at-once-profile.html) before Everything Everywhere All at Once came around, so for him, this was an acknowledgement that there was a place for him in the industry. The truth is that when the Oscars work, they don’t work because of pre-planned bits or brilliant jokes or some daring new spin on the show. It’s also hard to believe that this was all it took to put on a successful Oscars show. No, when the Oscars work, they work because the winners say or do something memorable. We can and will quibble over the actual awards, but it’s hard to argue with a show that pretty much did the thing it was supposed to.
