RE recruitment woe is a societal problem – but not like many think (Schools Week)

Census data showing Britain becoming a more secular society are no excuse to lose everything RE has to offer by letting recruitment worsen, writes Bushra ...

There’s no better place for that than in the RE classroom, with a trained and skilled teacher. As a RE Champion for Culham St Gabriel’s, I’ve written on the role individual schools can play in promoting the subject and ensuring sufficient time on the timetable. The Nepali woman has declared herself reluctant to pursue the matter with the police, citing fears of potential retaliation that could see her lose her job and ability to work in Malta. But while obtaining this permit requires a work contract, the company was alleged to be offering these permits without securing applicants a job beforehand. The police said that they had taken note of the allegations made by the woman, but insisted that anyone who feels the victim of a crime should make a formal report, and not limit themselves to airing their concerns on social media. The company, which is led by a Malta-born man of Pakistani origins, boasts of 500+ happy customers, 128 licenced officers and 2,000+ assets protected on its website. The agency said that it was crucial that those affected by abuse can feel that they can safely report it to the police without fear of being returned to their country of origin. It is unclear whether his UK operations are still ongoing.
