Celtic-Hibs reaction: Parkhead penalty first; in (slight) defence of ... (The Scotsman)

A madcap 3-1 win for Ange Postecoglou's men over their Leith visitors wasn't necessarily as warped as it appeared on first viewing.

It was to his credit that Johnson refused to be one-eyed in his assessment of the penalties for each side across the afternoon. In this narrow definition, a case could be made for McLean’s brandishing of a yellow. Ahead of the weekend, they were only one of two teams - 11th-placed Ross County the other - that hadn’t been awarded one in their own patch.

Celtic bully decks Hibs as Lee Johnson's Angeball ingenuity has no ... (Scottish Daily Record)

Oh was the goal hero on a day when the home side didn't always find the penetration amid the dominantion.

But their inability/unwillingness to punch holes in the Hibs line was summed up by Matt O’Riley taking possession well up the park early in the second half, with options to get Jota one-on-one against Lewis Stevenson – always a good match-up for Celtic – or play in early sub David Turnbull, who had managed to get himself on the wrong/right side of the Hibs midfield. Afternoons when the ball isn’t moved with quite the usual zip – or those little eight-yard runs needed to drag opponents out of their entrenched defensive positions aren’t quite sharp enough to get the job done. The definitive goal came from a corner won, after all, at the end of another typically all-action attack. Postecoglou even tweaked his shape a little to accommodate the centre forward, dropping Kyogo into a supporting role. In a game where Ange Postecoglou’s men enjoyed nearly 80 per cent of the possession and were credited with a barely credible 35 shots, with nine of those on target, it’s always easy, in retrospect, to say that the killer blow felt like it was coming. They miss Aaron Mooy when he’s not there to operate in between the opposition defence and midfield.

The midfielder returned to Japanese football on loan after failing to make an impact in Scottish football.

"I was able to take a positive step (in my career) by just thinking about standing on the pitch and playing. Ideguchi is contract at Celtic Park until 2026 and remains optimistic that he can earn a second chance at the club when he returns from his loan in Japan. I was out for a little longer due to my first injury, but I was exposed to Ange Postecoglou’s view of football, and I was really attracted to fast-paced soccer. But you're looking for a place to play yourself and I started thinking about going back to Japan and starting over” The midfielder is currently sidelined for up to three months after picking up an ankle injury on his first start for Kashiwa Reysol. Asked why he returned to Japan, Ideguchi said: "To tell you the truth, I was scared.

Sandman's Definitive Ratings - Celtic v Zebedees (thecelticstar.com)

“If Celtic can bring on five substitutes, then (the)Rangers must be allowed five too; With nobody coming off.” – Scottish media hacks' plans for rules ...

MIBBERY – 5/10 – Steven ‘With a V, BTW’ McLean on whistle-biting duties and Graham and Gavin in the VAR studio – a pair popular in Bennets for their fruit salad and bondage-swing trapeze act. OVERALL – 6.5/10 – Green v Green – basically – and officiated by somebody dressed as a pint of Guinness; pretty appropriate, or it should have been. Anyway, man of the match here may well have gone to the squad’s Japanese interpreter – Noydeea Fuxxhesayin – who was tasked by Ange to sit and talk the Japanese boys through the two Trainspotting movies for pre-match research. GREGGS THE BAKER – 6.5/10 – Drive on, and on, and on… He stood in the drizzle looking bemused at his charges’ efforts to tap back into the Angeball magic and threw everything he could at it to conjure a precious victory, going two up front in late desperation, and it paid off. ABADASS – 5.5/10 – Was it going to be this wee rapier threat? ANITA DOBSON – 7/10 – Ange knows the importance of clocking off for the ‘hurry-up-and-qualify-or-forget-it-so-we-can-get-back-to-the-proper-thing’ break so no question the Bhoys would be prepped to dance a merry jig on St.Paddy’s Day weekend. WAYNE GRETZKY – 5.5/10 – Called up to play in the Stanley Cup? In games like these you look for the matchwinner to save the day and this Bhoy became a man with a big contribution to the title surge. Korean wide-boy to fulfil his hubris and blow away the rainclouds with a school-playground diving-headed ‘winner’ and marvellous Jackie bodysuit displayed in celebration. HAKUNA HATATE – N/A – Oh Reo. But even though his hair looked critically injured he never stopped in his frantic attempts to create and forge a win.

With Curry and Thompson on the roster, Poole is never going to be able to become the main guard on the team. Not just this season, but in seasons going forward we’ll need that resilience and character in the team when we play for a massive club like this if we’re to move forward. You can go a goal down but there is loads of belief in the team that if we continue to play the right way we will create our chances.” Asked if Celtic will see a different Rangers, Tavernier said: “We have to because we knew the performance in the final wasn’t good enough from our point of view. By the time that game rolls around at the end of April, Tavernier could be a Rangers centurion. The semi-final is a last roll of the dice for Rangers this season with the league title out of sight.

At the end of the day it is football. It worked on Saturday, you saw that on the pitch. The manner of the defeat was frustrating but Miller is pragmatic: “Everyone gets emotional in the game, especially in a big game like that, first versus fourth. The gaffer gave me an opportunity to play and I just went out and gave it all I had. It was a good performance at the end of the day. I thought we played quite well and it was unfortunate we didn’t get the result.

Celtic teenager Ben Summers praised by Ange Postecoglou (The Transfer Tavern)

Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou has praised teenager Ben Summers after his inclusion in the squad against Hibernian on Saturday.

As relayed by [67 Hail Hail](https://www.67hailhail.com/celtic-youth/he-looks-the-part-celtic-boss-ange-postecoglou-explains-his-ben-summers-decision/), the Hoops boss admitted that the midfielder has been training with the first team for a while and ‘looks the part’, describing him as ‘really strong’ in the B team. “We’ve obviously got a couple of injuries in the midfield area with Aaron and Tomoki out. At a big club, it’s hard, but the reality is you do get an opportunity like he does today, it doesn’t take much – a couple of injuries. [Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ben-summers/profil/spieler/789389), although he has contributed to [eight](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ben-summers/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/789389) goals in [24](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ben-summers/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/789389) appearances for Celtic’s B team in a variety of midfield and attacking positions. The Hoops took another step towards retaining their Scottish Premiership title with a 3-1 win over Hibs at Celtic Park. [contract](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ben-summers/profil/spieler/789389) expires at the end of the season, though, so the club may be looking to tie him down for the long run, especially following his first involvement in a first-team matchday squad.

Sead Haksabanovic knows Celtic eruption is hard to top as star gets ... (Scottish Daily Record)

The Hoops star has headed off for international duty with Montenegro after scoring a stunner against Hibs.

We believe in the way the manager wants us to play and wants us to do things and we believe in each other because we know we have good quality. “He likes talking to everyone, he has good English, he’s trying to come into the team and I think he’s very happy here. Haksabanovic is making the most of his minutes and he’s just happy to help rather than banging the manager’s door demanding a place in the starting line up. “We have such a big squad and we can put any player out there and they will do well. The games will be coming thick and fast but Haksabanovic just wants to make the most of his Montenegro adventure and then get back to business. He said: “They are some big games coming up but for now I’m just focusing on the national team and trying to come back with some more confidence. Haksabanovic said: “I always feel good going away, it’s a little bit of a change and the weather is mostly going to be warm there! Haksabanovic said: “They made it hard for us, they scored then they slowed the game down. “I haven’t been in one with the national team but I think it’ll be good and the atmosphere will be good. I think the atmosphere here in Celtic Park, I don’t think you can beat that.” [Haksabanovic](https://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/all-about/sead-haksabanovic) knows there will be plenty of spice when the Brave Falcons square up to their Balkan big brothers.
